Junior tours for primary and intermediate students
Guidelines for Teachers
The tour starts outside the prison gates and is divided between the outside (main gate, graveyard, exercise yard) and inside (cells, remand cages). We accommodate for groups of up to 30 per tour guide and have plenty of staff to meet your needs. A minimum of one supervising adult per 10 children is required. We run an educational 2-hour Junior Program here at the prison suitable for junior and intermediate students. This teaches them about New Zealand history and what life was like for some people before they were born. It is a safe environment for the children to come and hopefully when they see what prison life is like for themselves it will make them think about being on the straight and narrow in their adult lives.
